Sports Autographs

Click on one of the links below to go to the appropriate page. I am in the process of adding new autographs to each of these pages plus moving the autographs on this page to it's appropriate page. When all are moved to the proper page, this page will be reserved for special items.

Astronauts   Entertainers   Political   Sports   Miscellaneous

This page features sports autographs. To visit any of the other special interest pages, please click on the appropriate blue link above.

A number of the vintage autographs in this area came from two old autograph books I acquired in the early 1960's and from a collection of many insignificant personal letters and documents an uncle of mine collected. Unfortunately my uncle clipped all of the signatures from the letters and documents. As I understand, sometime during WWII in Atlanta, Georgia, my uncle bought a collection of 5 bound volumes of Civil War era Harper's Weekly and several boxes of miscellaneous material. The collection of personal letters were in that miscellaneous material.

If the item is pictured on a descriptive album page, that item comes in a heavy poly holder punched to fit a standard 3-ring binder. The ones with a brief description at the bottom are 8.5" x 5.5" (like Pete Dawkins in Sports) and the ones that have lengthy descriptions (like Mario Andretti in Sports) are 8.5" x 11." If the autographed item is too large for the album page, it will be included in the poly holder. On ones that are affixed to the album page, they can be easily removed without damage.

Shipping and Insurance on any of these items is $6.00 per order domestic and $12.50 per order foreign.

$25.00 Peter Miller Dawkins (b. March 8, 1938, Royal Oak, Michigan) is a former Heisman Trophy winner, Rhodes Scholar, U.S. Army Brigadier General, and Republican candidate for Senate. He is the former vice chairman of Citigroup Private Bank.

Pete was a highly decorated officer in Vietnam, and a personal friend of mine many years ago when I was a football manager at West Point. This is a boldly signed 3x5 card mounted on a descriptive album page.

$19.00 Felix "Doc" Blanchard is best known as "Mr. Inside" of the West Point football team during the final years of WWII. After completing his freshman season at the University of North Carolina in 1942, Blanchard enlisted in the United States Army, took basic training in Miami, and was assigned to an Army Air Force ground school in Clovis, New Mexico.

He received an appointment to the United States Military Academy on July 2, 1944. During his three years at West Point his team under coach Earl "Red" Blaik compiled an undefeated 27-0-1 record.

Blaik once explained what made Blanchard unique:

"Imagine a big bruising fullback who runs one hundred yards in ten seconds flat, who kicks off into the end zone, who punts fifty yards, who can also sweep the flank as well as rip the middle, who catches laterals or forward passes with sure-fingered skill, and who makes his own interference. That's Mr. Blanchard."

An all-around athlete, Blanchard served as the placekicker and punter in addition to his primary roles as an offensive fullback and a linebacker on defense. In the first capacity, he teamed with fellow Heisman winner Glenn Davis (Mr. Outside) to form one of the most lethal rushing combinations in football history, scoring 38 touchdowns and earning the nickname "Mr. Inside."

He got the nickname "Doc" because his father was a physician who was also an outstanding football player for Tulane and Wake Forest Universities.

I worked with Doc when he was an assistant coach at West Point and I was a football manager.

$15.00 Robert William Andrew "Bob" Feller (born November 3, 1918 in Van Meter, Iowa), nicknamed the "Heater from Van Meter" and "Rapid Robert", is an American former Major League Baseball pitcher. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962.

On December 8, 1941 Feller, enlisted in the Navy, volunteering immediately for combat service becoming the first Major League Baseball player to do so following the Attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7. Feller served as Gun Captain aboard the USS Alabama, and missed four seasons during his service in World War II, being decorated with five campaign ribbons and eight battle stars.

This is a boldly signed card mounted on a descriptive album page.

$24.00   Mario Andretti - Beautifully signed 8x10 color photo of him standing in front of his car. The signed photo comes with a descriptive album page. This album page comes in a heavy poly holder that is punched to fit a standard 8.5" x 11" ring binder or it can be framed.
$12.00 George Edward Foreman (born January 10, 1949) is an American two-time World Heavyweight Boxing Champion and entrepreneur.

He became the oldest man ever to win a major heavyweight title when, at 45, he knocked out 26-year-old Michael Moorer in the 10th round. Foreman still holds that distinction and has been named one of the 25 greatest fighters of all time by Ring Magazine.  Nicknamed "Big George," he is now a successful businessman and an ordained Christian minister who has his own church.

Foreman has 10 children, and each of his five sons is named George: George Jr., George III, George IV, George V, and George VI. They are also known by the nicknames "Monk," "Red," "Joe," "Big Wheel," and "Little George." His five daughters are Michi, Georgetta, Freeda Georgia, Natalie, and Leola.

This is a boldly signed card mounted on a descriptive album page.

$10.00 Desmond Kevin Howard (born May 15, 1970 in Cleveland, Ohio) is a former American football wide receiver, punt returner, and kick returner in the National Football League.

He played for the Washington Redskins (1992–1994), Jacksonville Jaguars (1995), Green Bay Packers (1996, 1999), Oakland Raiders (1997–1998) and Detroit Lions (1999–2002). Prior to his professional career, he attended the University of Michigan where he won the Heisman Trophy in 1991. Howard also was voted the Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XXXI, and the only special teams player to win the award.

$20.00 Johnny Lattner #1 - Born October 24, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois, Lattner was a halfback for the University of Notre Dame. He won the Maxwell Award twice, in 1952 and 1953, and also won the Heisman Trophy in 1953. In 1954, Lattner was drafted in the first round by the Pittsburgh Steelers, but played with them for only one season before entering the United States Air Force. There, during a football game, he suffered a severe knee injury that prevented him from ever playing professional football again. This outstanding Time Magazine cover is boldly signed and inscribed by Lattner in  blue ink.
$12.00 Johnny Lattner #2 - See description above. Boldly handsigned 3x5 card
$12.00 John Christopher Lujack Jr. (pronounced Lu' jack) is a former American football quarterback and 1947 Heisman Trophy winner.

Lujack was born on January 4, 1925 in the Pittsburgh suburb of Connellsville, Pennsylvania. He played college football for the University of Notre Dame, and professionally for the Chicago Bears. Lujack was the first of several successful quarterbacks who hailed from Western Pennsylvania. Others include Pro Football Hall of Fame members Johnny Unitas, Joe Namath, Dan Marino, Jim Kelly, Joe Montana and George Blanda. He now lives in Bettendorf, Iowa.

Lujack served as a color commentator on CBS NFL telecasts for a number of years in the late 1950s and early '60s.

He served three years in the U.S. Navy during WWII
